UGC to consider 'logical'demands of university teachers


University Grants Commission (UGC) assured the teachers of the public universities of taking necessary steps regarding their eight-point demands, including merit based recruitment and construction of a teachers' guesthouse in the capital.

The assurance came from a meeting between a delegation of The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association and the UGC Chairman Professor Dr M Asaduzzaman on Thursday.

Terming the demands logical, the UGC chairman, along with other members present during the meeting, agreed on various issues, including an increase in the sixth national pay scale for the associate professors and introduction of a uniform grading system as well as a benefits policy for all public university teachers.

The delegation was led by the federation President Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique and Secretary General Prof Gazi Saleh Uddin.

UGC members Prof Monirul Huq, Prof KM Mohsin, Prof Mahfujul Huq, Prof Mahbubullah and Prof Mahfujul Huq and federation members Prof Khalekujjaman of Rajshahi University, Prof AZM Nowsher Ali Khan of Dhaka University and Prof Sushanta Das and Prof Yasmin Huq of Shahajalal University were also present during the meeting, said a press release.
