They came to see Mushfiqur

There was a nine-thousand strong crowd at the Riverside ground on the opening day of the second Test and most of them were disappointed not seeing young Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim in action.

Since the most of the English media were unaware that Mushfiqur was ruled out for the second Test after twisting his ankle, cricket fans smelt there might be a selection dispute and that's why the 16-year-old has been dropped.

Mushfiq was highlighted as a potentially good batsmen and cricket fans here at Chester-le-Street wanted to see him bat.

"Where is that boy. Why is he not in the team," inquired a cricket fan in his 40s to this reporter. And when he learned about the freakish injury he looked upset.

Mushfiqur scored an impressive 19 in the first innings on debut at Lord's and he was very much in for the second Test until he slipped while coming down the stairs at the Redworth Hall Hotel and twisted his left ankle.

The young cricketer was scheduled to leave England for Dhaka along with Talha Jubair and Enamul Haque on Friday night.
