UNO threatens to beat up journos

A UNO (upazila nirbahi officer) of Joypurhat Thursday at a gathering attended by ruling BNP leaders threatened to beat up three journalists of the district.UNO Abul Kalam Azad of Khetlal upazila at the inauguration programme of paving the Jugipukur-Fasitola road termed journalists Anwaruzzaman Nadim, Alamgir Chowdhury and Azizar Rahman as "enemies" and threatened to beat them up "publicly within a month". Meanwhile, it was learnt that UNO Azad at his office on March 28 asked some reporters to publish that the words of the MP (member of the parliament) of the area are law to him. "The former UNO was transferred as he did not abide by the MP," he told journalists, adding, "He [the MP] will also kick me out if I don't follow him." But when his words were published, the UNO burst into anger. The three journalists are now considering to lodge a case against the UNO.
