The tornado lasting barely two minutes devastated Gumnati and Bamunia unions of Domar upazila and partially ravaged adjacent Panga Matukpur and Dimla Sadar unions.

Scores of trees were uprooted, electric poles twisted and extensive damage caused to standing crops and vegetables.

The dead are Hasina Begum, 35, Mariam Begum, 38, and Abiran Nessa. 45.

Of the injured, Saleha Khatun, Kadiluddin, Narayan Chandra, Jitendra Nath Roy, Sudhannya Roy, Morshedul, Matiar Rahman, Habibur Rahmanm, Fazlur Rahman and Ainul Haq were admitted to health complex or clinics. Identity of others could not be known.

Deputy commissioner along with local officials visited the affected areas yesterday. He distributed Tk 500 and rice to each of 300 families who have suffered most.

Officials said a message was sent to the relief ministry for sanction of Tk 6000 in cash, two bundles CI sheets and 20kg rice for each of the affected families.

Another report from Bogra said a severe storm swept Kahalu upazila on Tuesday evening, injuring 25 people and damaging about 100 houses.
