Tipped off, Kotowali police arrested a top criminal, Shahjahan, 28, an accused in 14 cases, from an ice factory on Monday afternoon.

Later, acting on his confessional statement, police took him to his house at Marichapara under Double Mooring thana to recover one LG loaded with two rounds of cartridges in the early hours yesterday.

As police were making a seizure list of the arms, Shahjahan tried to flee, prompting police to shoot and injure him.

With bullet wound in his knee, Shahjahan was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital under police guard.

Shahjahan, an accused in murder, robbery and piracy cases, was also earlier arrested five times but released on bail.

In another incident, Bandar police arrested Md Zakir Hossain alias Kana Zakir, a listed criminal, from Goshaidanga in the early hours yesterday.
