Municipal office ransacked for salary in Jessore

Workers ransacked and damaged a room of Jessore Pourasava yesterday following an altercation among them and the municipality employees.The Workers' Union members were agitating for payment of their outstanding salaries for the last few days, according to a source in the Pourasava. They earlier submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP). In face of agitation, the poura authorities decided to pay one month's salary yesterday. When they came to the accountant's office room, an altercation ensued among them and the employees. At this stage the secretary of the worker's union was assaulted. Then the agitated workers ransacked and damaged the room of the accountant, Raha Babu. Both the Workers' Union and the Employees' Union blamed each other for the damage. The chairman and the pouro committee members were present at the office during the melee. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
