Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) arrested seven highway robbers with two trucks loaded with 140 mounds of garments cotton and six tonnes of scrap in Sitakunda upazila in the early hours of Monday. Tipped off, a Rab team from Baroiyarhat camp kept waiting at MSK Jute Mills point on the highway and arrested the seven robbers with two looted trucks (Feni-Ta-050158 and Chattagram-Ta-3759). The seven are Abdus Shukkur, Mahbub Alam, Delwar Hossain, Dulal Hossain, Mujibur Rahman, Badshah Meah and Noor Mohammad, one of the two drivers. During Rab interrogation, they confessed their involvement in highway robbery for long. They were handed over to Sitakunda police. Rab-7 has set up three camps at Baroiyarhat, Feni and Comilla on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway following a spurt in incidents robbery. Several trucks with export-import cargo were taken away by highway robbers in recent days. The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) earlier demanded Rab camps and regular patrol on the highway.
