WC stadium inaugurated

Munich's new 66,000-seater Allianz Arena stadium which will host the opening match of the 2006 World Cup opened its gates for an inaugural ceremonial fixture here on Monday.

The 340 million euro-venue, nicknamed the 'Schlauchboot' (rubber dinghy) because of its design, attracted a capacity crowd for the game between 1860 Munich and Nuremberg.

Two further fixtures this week feature German champions Bayern Munich against a team picked by national manager Juergen Klinsmann, and a city derby between Bayern and 1860.
