OC closed for highway robbery link


Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station in the district was closed on charge of involvement with highway robbery on Monday.

The OC, Quamrul Hasan, was closed and sent to the district police headquarters in Halishahar at the directive of the higher authorities following Rapid Action Battalion's (Rab) informing the police headquarters of the OC's alleged involvement with the crime.

Members of Rab-7 in Chittagong in a predawn raid on Monday arrested seven highway robbers while they were hijacking two trucks loaded with 140 maunds of garment cotton and six tonnes of scrap from KSM Jute Mills area in Sitakunda upazila.

The OC of Sitakunda Police Station was involved in the act, said the criminals in their confessional statement.

The Rab-7 recently set up three special camps at Baroiyerhat, Feni and Comilla points of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the wake of rise in robbery of export-import cargoes, trucks and covered vans.

Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry had earlier staged demonstrations to press home their demand for setting up Rab camps and regular patrol on the highway.
