Hazari plans to surrender in a month

Expelled Awami League leader Joynal Hazari wants to come back to the country and surrender in the court within a month, he said in a statement faxed yesterday to newspaper offices.

Hazari termed the party decision to expel him an outcome of a conspiracy against him. He however said he would welcome the decision if it brings in good for the party.

In the four-page statement, the former AL lawmaker, who has been absconding since late 2001, did not mention his present address.

"I consider myself a dead body after the attack of the caretaker government," Hazari said in the statement. He said the conspirators have misguided party chief and Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina to expel him from the party.

Hazari said he wanted to spend his last days in jail in his homeland and he would be obliged if he gets the state honour as a freedom fighter after his death.

But before going to jail he wants to talk to journalists, the statement says.

Hazari also said he will not join any other party after serving the AL for 35 years.

The expelled AL leader said he is now writing a book that would reveal a lot of unknown facts to people. "If I cannot publish the book, I will put it on website," he said.

Hazari had hogged the headlines frequently for his criminal activities during the AL rule in 1996-2001, but in the statement he claimed the press reports about him were false.
