Roundtable on media role told

Speakers at a roundtable meeting here yesterday stressed on concerted efforts of all to make people aware about the deadly disease of AIDS. Organised by the Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) and assisted by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), the roundtable titled, 'Role of Mass Media in Preventing HIV/AID,' was held at a local hotel. DAM Information Cell Director Nurul Islam was in the chair. The speakers further said, NGO personnel, journalists and professionals should play their due role to make people aware about HIV/AIDS. They emphasised on disciplined living for its prevention. They reminded people that 80 per cent patients suffering from various sex diseases are prone to AIDS. They advised people not to follow blindly the lifestyle of people of the neighbouring country, rather to follow the tenets of Islam to check the disease. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Jessore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Abdul Wazed as chief guest and Superintendent of Police (SP) S M Hafizur Rahman and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr.Niranjan Kumar Sikder as special guests.
