Showcause on Patuakhali poura chairman

A court here on Thursday issued a show cause notice on Patuakhali Pourasabha chairman Mostaq Ahmed and nine others for alleged irregularity in appointment of 10 third and fourth class employees of the pourasabha.The case was filed jointly by poura commissioner and panel chairman Syed Mostafizur Rahman Rumi and Muktijoddha Sangsad district convenor Mohsin Uddin Dulal. A seven-member staff appointment committee headed by the municipality chairman selected the employees against seven posts. A written test and viva-voce examination were held on April 24. The chairman allegedly took bribe and selected them. During recruitment, he did not maintain the quota of 30 per cent reserve seats for freedom fighters. No recruitment notice was published in wellcirculated dailies. When contacted, the municipality chairman termed the appointments legal. He disclosed, a circular was published in The Daily Observer on January 21 to this effect while written test and viva-voce examination were held.
