'Awareness can help reduce impact of climate change'

Awareness about climate change and implementation of strategies for adaptation can reduce the impact of climate change on people's livelihoods, speakers said yesterday at a workshop.

Water logging, increasing salinity and flooding are threatening the livelihoods of people in the southwest region of the country and these hazards seem to become more serious with the impact of climate change, they added.

The workshop was organised by the CIDA-supported Care Bangladesh project 'Reducing Vulnerability to Climate Change (RVCC)' in the city.

Sylvia Islam, senior development officer of the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka, inaugurated the programme while RVCC project Technical Advisor Ahsan Uddin Ahmed, Partnership Coordinator Jainal Abedin and Acting Project Coordinator Angie Daze addressed it.
