76th anniversary of birth of Jahanara Imam today

Today is the 76th birth anniversary of Jahanara Imam.

Known as iconic Shaheed Janani, martyr's mother, she spearheaded the movement for bringing the collaborators of the 1971 liberation war to justice, and banning communal politics in the country.

As a leading organiser of pro-liberation forces, she is believed to have single handedly led the unprecedented movement that gained widespread popular support within a very short time.

She was also a noted writer, and the publication of her diary as a book titled 'Ekatturer Dinguli' (Of Blood and Fire) is considered to be one of the most widely-read publication on the liberation war.

Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee has taken up elaborate programmes to observe the day.

The committee will lay a wreath on her grave at 8.00am, and hold a seminar titled 'War Crime: Experience of China and Japan, and Movement of Shaheed Janani' at the WVA Auditorium in Dhanmondi at 4.00pm.

Different political, social and cultural personalities, including Prof Kabir Chowdhury, Journalist Shahriar Kabir, Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury, Advocate Mahabube Alam, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Huq Inu, Bangladesh Communist Party President Monjurul Ahsan Khan, Bangladesh Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Awami League leader Abdur Razzak, Poet Shamsur Rahman, Justice KM Sobahan and Women leader Hena Das, are scheduled to speak at the seminar.
