Independence Day soccer from May 5

Independence Day football tournament, first of its kind in this North Bengal headquarters, kicks off on May 5 at the Rajshahi Stadium with top clubs of the country taking part.A total of eight reputed teams from Dhaka and Rajshahi are expected to participate in the meet jointly organised by the Rajshahi City Corporation and Dalia Binsan Group. Six teams from Dhaka are Mohammedan, Abahani, Muktijoddha, Sheikh Russel, Arambagh and Farashganj while Bangladesh Army and Rajshahi Mayor Eleven complete the fray. Dhaka Premier League runners-up Sheikh Russel will play Bangladesh Army in the opening match. A colourful rally from the old City Corporation of Rajshahi to the Rajshahi Stadium was brought out yesterday to drum up the soccer extravaganza.
