US team visits Sirajganj, keen to set up plants


The top brass of a US company, now in Bangladesh with a billion dollar investment plan, showed interest in establishing a fertiliser factory and a power plant near Jamuna Bridge if necessary facilities are available.

Led by President Ford F Graham of the Global Vulcan Energy International Ltd, the team yesterday visited the site on the bank of the Jamuna and held a meeting with the deputy commissioner, discussing various aspects of their mission.

At the meeting, the US team said they would set up the fertiliser factory and power plant if land, gas and electricity were made available.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Global Vulcan Energy International Ltd Shawkat Kazi, its Mining Expert Andrew Scrymgeour and the CEO of Mughal Resource Consultant and Management Ltd M Abdullah and its Managing Director G Yusuf Ali were present at the meeting.

Later, the team left for Dinajpur to visit Barapukuria Coal Mine as the US firm wants to set up a coal-fired power plant.
