Md Rafique Cricketer of the Year

Cricket fans through SMS voted Mohammad Rafique the Pan Pacific Cricketer of the Year for 2004-05 for his outstanding performance both in bowing and batting.Two others nominees in the contest were Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar Sumon and wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud Pilot. The name of the best cricketer was announced at a function at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel last night. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged the selection in cooperation with Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, GrameenPhone, Partex Group and Global Online. The fans also voted Mohammad Ashraful the RC Cola best batsman, Enamul Haq Jr Global Online best bowler and Mohammad Rafique GrameenPhone best all-rounder. Enamul was also voted the GrameenPhone best emerging cricketer. State Minister for Youth and Sports M Fazlur Rahman attended the award giving ceremony along with former and current national cricketers, BCB advisors and sports organisers. The BCB also announced the best cricket reporter and best cricket photographer. Rabid Imam of The Daily Star was adjudged the best cricket reporter and Shamsul Haq Tenku of the Prothom Alo the best cricket photographer. The winners received $1,000 and a trophy each.
