Cell phones, gold ornaments worth Tk 33 lakh seized

Customs officials seized mobile sets and gold ornaments worth over Tk 33 lakh from a passenger soon after his arrival at Zia International Airport from Dubai in a Biman flight yesterday morning.Members of customs surveillance team stopped Mafizur Rahman as he was trying to cross the transit point suspiciously, official sources said. The team searched two luggage of Mafizur and found 460 mobile phone sets, 12 gold bangles and two earrings. Customs officials said Mafizur, who works in a marine company in Dubai, is engaged in smuggling for a long time. He was handed over to Airport Police Station following a case filed in this connection.
