A group of armed criminals damaged the caféteria of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) at Segunbagicha in the city yesterday.

They also attacked several DRU members and employees as they protested the vandalism injuring three reporters of the organisation of about 750 journalists from print and electronic media, police said, quoting the First Information Report (FIR) lodged with Ramna Police Station.

The injured members are Sohel Suny, Mannan Maruf and Moshihur Rahman Khan.

Witnesses said the culprits started damaging the northern portion of the cafeteria at about 2:00pm.

A gang of approximately 20 to 30 youths, including Azim, Ibrahim, Mintu, Ramzan, Kamal, Iqbal and Sadhu, armed with firearms and lethal weapons, attacked the members and employees, they said adding Paker Ali led the attack.

Police could not arrest anyone as of 9:00pm last night.

Meanwhile, A DRU press release said a vested quarter is out to grab the land when mayor and land ministry as per the prime minister's directive are at the final stage of handing over the land to the DRU.

Members and employees of DRU are passing days in a sense of insecurity and urged the concerned authorities to ensure security bringing the criminals to book.
