Sovereignty under threat due to misrule
Speakers tell discussion

Country's sovereignty is under threat due to misrule of the BNP-led four-party alliance government, said the speakers at a discussion yesterday.

They called for a united movement to revive the spirit of the liberation war to establish a true democratic society free from corruption.

The discussion was organised by Awami Swechchhasebok League at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city to mark the Independence Day.

The speakers said an election under an impartial caretaker government could bring back the pro-liberation forces to power.

They said the current united movement would be continued to topple this corrupt government.

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Abdul Jalil said Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, wife of a freedom fighter, is involved in a conspiracy against the country.

"She is actively distorting the history of our liberation war in collaboration with the anti-liberation forces to share the glory of the victory," he added.

AL Presidium Member Amir Hossain Amu said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman united the people under Bengali nationalism.

He said the BNP has joined hands with Jamaat-e-Islami to safeguard its power.

AL Joint General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the failure of government media to broadcast the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Independence Day programme has tarnished the image of the country.

Presided over by Awami Swechchhasebok League President AFM Bahauddin Nasim, the discussion was also participated by Vice- president Moinuddin Moin, Engineer Mohiuddin, Saidul Haque, BCL former general secretary Ajoy Kor Khokon, Prof Saidul Haque Kabir and Habibur Rahman Khan.
