An evening of Nazrul songs
Musical soiree at Nazrul Institute


Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad organised its monthly programme at the Nazrul Institute on Wednesday last. Eminent singer Nashid Kamal, along with promising talents such as Chhanda Chakrovarti, Krishnakanto Acharya, Fatemi Amin Lavli and .Ali Ahmed (all the way from Khulna) rendered different Nazrul songs at the show.

This is the fifth programme of its kind by Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad. This organisation promotes promising Nazrul singers from all around the country. In each show this organisation introduces at least one singer from outside Dhaka who has least exposure in the media.

After the speech by singer Rebecca Sultana, the anchor of the show Bulbul Mahalanobish presented brief introductions of the artistes. Krishnakanto Acharya, the opening singer rendered Pardesi Badhuya, Amay jara dey ma betha, Khatuney Jannat Fatema and Pardeshi megh jao re firey all of which were spiritual and love songs by Nazrul. Acharya has been singing from the 1960s and had his basic lessons of music under Narayanchandra Shaha, Barin Majumdar, Sagiruddin Khan and other music mentors.

A regular teacher of music schools Sangeetbhaban and Shurer Dhara, Acharya is an enlisted artiste of Bangladesh Betar and BTV.

Among the participants was Fatema Amin Lavli, who has been singing since she was five-years-old. She participated twice in the Natun Kuri Competition in 1970s . Meser Ali, Almas Ahmed, Lutfur Rahman, Shudhin Das and Shuman Chowdhury are among her mentors. Lavli released two music albums and currently she is a regular singer of Bangladesh Betar and BTV. Lavli rendered some of the popular Nazrul songs including Bhuley jeo shedin jodi, Bolechhiley tumi and Esho go shyamolo ghana deya at the show.

Another participant Ali Ahmed who has been involved with Khulna Radio since the 1970s, is not only a Nazrul singer, but also a flutist and music composer. Shabujer Bukey Lal Shurjo, rendered by Sabina Yasmeen, is the most popular song he composed. Ali Ahmed is also dedicated to promoting promising singers. After a short speech, he rendered Morey dekhey nao drishti.

Chhanda Chakrovarti, the a winner of many awards at the children's competition in early 1990s, rendered some popular Nazrul songs. At the end of the programme, eminent Nazrul singer Nashid Kamal performed some catchy numbers . And this was the finale.
