4 UP representatives killed in 3 months

Four union parishad (UP) representatives were killed and 19 others injured across the country in the first three months of the year, says a report of Democracywatch, a non-government organisation.The dead are UP Chairman Engineer Aminul Islam of Khagria Union under Satkania upazila in Chittagong, UP Member Abdul Razzak of Ghoshpur union under Boalmari upazila in Faridpur, UP Member Bachchu Molla of Kalia union under Doulatpur upazila in Manikganj and UP member Shah Alam of Holdia union under Raozan upazila in Chittagong districts. Meanwhile, there were allegations against 34 UP representatives for misappropriations of funds, irregularities in the distribution of allowances for widows and aged people including relief distribution during the period. The report was based on newspaper stories and the records of the Democracywatch.
