Baby kidnapped for Tk 10 lakh ransom
Two held

After abducting a two-year-old boy Wednesday night from a house on the city's Nazimuddin Road, kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh for his release yesterday.

Police arrested two of the kidnappers from the area last night. But the baby could be rescued, Kotwali police said when this report was filed at 12:30am.

A police team went to Bhairab in Kishoreganj district last night to rescue the child following the statement of the arrestees.

Family sources said their distant relative Anwar Hossain Anu along with his friend Halim came to their house at 8:30pm Wednesday and took Nikhil, son of Helal Ahmed, an expatriate in Japan, out of the house to buy him chocolate.

Makbul Hossain, the victim's grandfather, in the FIR (first information report) filed with Kotwali Police Station said the kidnappers phoned him (Makbul) yesterday morning demanding the ransom.

In the FIR, the complainant accused Anu, Halim, Rahim, Sohel and several unidentified people of the kidnap. Anu and Halim used to visit their house occasionally, police said.
