Hasina leaves for Spain Mar 7

Leader of the Opposition and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina will go to Spain on March 7 to attend an international conference of the former heads of states and governments.

AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil said UN Secretary General Kofi Anan will be present at the two-day conference.

An AL source said Hasina will place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban early in the morning on March 7 prior to her flight to Spain. She will also take part in a few other programmes in the morning.

She will return home on March 14 after her weeklong visit to Spain.

The source added that Hasina has postponed her scheduled US visit due to ongoing anti-government movement and changed political situation.

She was scheduled to go to the US in the second week of March for treatment of her ear affected by the bangs of August 21 grenade blasts on an Awami League rally.

Meantime, Hasina yesterday said the BNP-Jamaat-led government has no moral right to stay in power as it has completely failed to deliver, reports UNB.

"The government has mislead the people by resorting to falsehood. It doesn't spare a thought for controlling price hike of essentials that made people's life miserable," she told different district-level party leaders called on her at Sudha Sadan.

Hasina blamed the government for destroying the country's image by violating human rights, killing journalists, repressing women and unleashing corruption.

On Bangla Bhai, she said, "He was not arrested despite directive from the prime minister that means the government has no control over administration or it was an eyewash."

Hasina also demanded the proper investigation into all grenade attacks and punishment of culprits involved.
