Akhter Hamid alias Paban, son of Chief Whip Khondoker Delwar Hossain, who had been arrested in connection with an attempted murder case, was placed on a one-day remand yesterday for interrogation.Metropolitan Magistrate Shafiq Anwar rejected the bail petition placed by the defence lawyers saying their client was implicated in the case as part of conspiracy to harass him falsely, and placed Paban, 30, on a one-day remand. The Detective Branch (DB) of police had produced Paban before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka, at 1:00pm with a prayer for a three-day remand to quiz him for information about his illegal firearms and the whereabouts of his accomplices. In the remand prayer, DB Inspector Ruhul Amin, who is also investigation officer (IO), mentioned that at about 3:00pm on February 25 Paban and his accomplices went to a fax-phone shop named 'Sim Telecom' at 136 Bangshal Road and made an altercation with the owner of the shop Mohammad Alamgir over payment of phone call. Later, Paban fired several rounds of bullet at the shop owner to kill but Alamgir managed to escape, the IO said. A team of DB police arrested Paban from a stationery shop near his house in Armanitola on Monday at around 8:30pm.
