Q & A
" Once I was hanging midway between life and death" -- Farah
Farah Ruma is a promising model-turned-actress who has acted in a number of television plays, including serials and telefilms. Currently, she is acting in three drama serials Lodia, Shampurna Rangin and Sheola. Recently, she shared her thoughts and experiences with The Daily Star about her professional and personal life. Excerpts are given below:

What is your real self?
Acquaintances say that I am capricious. They have a point: sometimes I am very restless and extrovert, but at the next moment I may become serene. I think I am a very simple person who has faith in people. Sometimes people take advantage of my innocence.

If you could turn back time and change any incident of your life what that would be?
There are people who make mistakes and often want to change their failures into success. Sometimes I also felt that way. But I am a very optimistic person and believe that life has its ups and downs. I want to look ahead, and not look back and cry over spilt milk.

Dream role
I want to play diversified characters, which are not very simple and predictable. For example, I am keen to play the role of a physically challenged person. I also have a long cherished dream to portray the character Nandini of Rabindranath Tagore's Raktokarobi.

How important is glamour for an actor?
As television is an entertainment medium, glamour is a must for performers. The actors should be presentable and impressive. But the true beauty of an actor lies in his/her acting skills.

If you are were granted a wish to select a co-actor who would that be?
Shahrukh Khan would obviously be my first choice. He has all the qualities of a good actor.

Memorable eventLast year I acted in a music video titled Ekla Pakhi directed by Apon Ahsan. We went to the hilly area of Chittagong Hill Tracts to shoot the video. There was a shot where I was supposed to wave my scarf in the air looking up to the sky. It was about a 100-foot hill where I was standing. As the camera rolled on, I was looking at the sky, without the faintest idea of where I was stepping. Suddenly, I realised I was falling down. I screamed out of fear! After a fraction of a second, I found myself hanging from the branch of a tree. I could see the director and the crew of the unit helplessly looking at me. The shock of the incident had rendered them speechless. However, they soon came running to me and saved me from any further disaster. I can never forget the moment because I was literally hanging midway between life and death.

Future plans
My present is important to me, not the future. I don't even think much about the future. However, I want to carry on with my present acting career successfully. And I want to be an ideal daughter, an ideal wife and of course an ideal mother.
