Benson & Hedges Ampfusion
Magical moments of music

It was one of those rare events where folk and contemporary, mainly rock musicians shared the stage under the banner of B&H Ampfusion in Hotel Sheraton's Winter Garden.

The event comprised big names Shahjahan Munshi, Habib (Krishno and Maya), Black, LRB and Star Search winner Mitra Kabir.

The acoustics and amazing lights went a long way in creating a memorable ambience. As the crowd cheered, the concert got off the ground.

The intro was a drum jamming by Tony, drummer of the band Black. With hearty applause and drum beats, the hall came alive.

B & H star search winner Mitra Kabir was next with her sensuous lyrics and tasteful tune, but best of all, she had a crystal clear voice singing Heri mukho chande and Oki eshechey.

Next on stage was the eagerly awaited Habib: the man who is said to have given fusion music in our country a new standing. With his fantastic on-stage presentation of Maya lagaise, Mon mojaiya, Kuhu Shurey and the famous track Krishno, the environment went electric. He invited guest vocals Milon Mahmud, whose presentations were remarkable.

Kaniz Shuborna was next. Her showmanship with her usual dance and melody numbers went down well with the audience.

Shahjahan Munshi was another great performer whose vocals drew applause. Using authentic folk instruments, the musician performed Jaat gelo, Eki prem er protidan, Jotoney pushbo pakhi, Shohoj manush and more. The instrumentation and his vocals were magnetic--the crowd loved it.

The final attraction, which rocked the hearts out of the crowd, was a joint performance by the bands Black and LRB. Occasional jamming where Ayub Bachhu with his bluesy guitar playing mingled with heavy alternative guitar riffs of Black's Jahan was extremely captivating.

Black performed the awe-inspiring set of Blues and Roud, Obhiman, Porahoto and Amra. Tahsan the keyboardist of Black started playing the celebrated ballad Shei tumi, and was joined by Ayub Bachhu on stage. This sharing of different genres of songs through an amp gave rise to the Ampfusion.

LRB performed a few of their favourite numbers before the curtains came down for the night.

As media relation manager of British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) Ahmad Munir Hossain said, international bands like Strings and Junoon are next on their roster and these fusion events are likely to provide great entertainment.

What was best about this event was this diverse lineup of different musicians on a single stage brought together by Benson & Hedges. These efforts have won wide appreciation.
