Shaheed Tajul's anniversary of death today


The 21st death anniversary of Shaheed Tajul Isalm, a central leader of Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra, will be observed today, says a press release.

Different political organisations have taken elaborate programmes to mark the day.

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) will place wreaths at the sculpture of Shaheed Tajul Islam at its office at 10.00am.

The CPB will also hold a discussion at its office at 11.00am. Leaders of different political parties will address the discussion.

President of Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra (BTUK) Mohammed Nurul Isalm and General Secretary Wajedul Islam Khan said Tajul Islam sacrificed his life for establishing the rights of the workers.

They also said due to wrong policy of the government, country's mills and factories are being laid off and thousands of workers are loosing their jobs.

The BTUK will also hold a discussion in the city at 4.00pm to mark the Shaheed Tajul Day. Leaders from different trade unions will take part in the discussion.

Tajul Islam, a worker of Adamjee Jute Mill was gunned down by criminals while leading a procession during a strike called by Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parished in 1984 during the anti-autocracy movement.

Tajul Islam joined the Adamjee Jute Mills as a worker after completion of his education at Dhaka University to organise labour movement.
