August 21 Grenade Attack
Moudud for publishing judicial inquiry report

The government is considering publishing the Joynul Abedin Judicial Inquiry Commission Report on the August 21 grenade attack on the Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city that left 22 people, including Ivy Rahman, killed and over 200 others injured.

"My personal opinion in this regard is to publish the judicial inquiry report on the August 21 grenade attack and I have conveyed my opinion to the government," said Law Minister Moudud Ahmed at the monthly press briefing yesterday.

Moudud said the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Inquiry Committee also could not identify the perpetrators or the masterminds of the grenade attacks.

The SCBA committee should have extended assistance to the judicial inquiry commission formed by the government, he added.

Moudud said the government has achieved tremendous success in its legal reform programmes.

"Some 5,911 cases have been disposed of under the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) of the Civil Procedure of Code (CPC). The government is also considering launching the ADR to dispose of cases under the Criminal Procedure of Code (CrPC)," he added.

The minister said the government has realised Tk 1760.38 crore out of the total Tk 8818.40 crore from the loan defaulters by disposing of 18,207 cases under the Orthorin Ain (finance debt act) in last 22 months.

Law Secretary Alauddin Sarder, Additional Secretary Habibul Awal and senior officials were present.
