Launch Disasters
'Take action against culprits'

The Save Environment Movement yesterday demanded punishment to the persons and organisations responsible for all launch disasters.

It also called for formulating a national policy to ensure safety of the passengers of water transports.

The environmental activists formed a human chain and staged a demonstration at Shahbagh in the city to press for their demand.

At a rally, the speakers called for forming a citizens' investigation committee to identify the persons and organisations responsible.

They also demanded that the probe reports on all launch disasters be made public and compensation be paid to the families of those killed in the launch accidents.

They identified faulty design of launches, unskilled driver and overloading as major causes of such accidents.

Presided over by Convenor of the Save Environment Movement Abu Naser Khan, the rally was also addressed by Golam Kibria, Binoy Mondol, Robin Biswas, Alamgir Kabir and Shahin Aziz.
