Australian state to include Bangla as second language


The government of New South Wales of Australia will include Bangla as a second language for HSC-level examinations.

Enrollment of students for this course will commence from the 1st term of 2006 for class VII to X and HSC examinations in Bangla curriculum start from 2008.

Bob Carr, the premier of New South Wales, informed Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia Ashraf-ud-Doula about the decision when he called on the premier yesterday.

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, during her visit to Australia in 2002, upon request from the expatriate Bangladeshis living in Sydney, urged the Premier of New South Wales to incorporate Bangla as a second language for Bangladeshi students at the HSC curriculum.
