Raising Privileges
JS body fails to meet

The first meeting of a parliamentary sub-committee formed to make recommendations on how to raise lawmakers' privileges could not take place yesterday due to absence of a member.

The high-powered parliamentary body on privileges headed by the speaker at a meeting in last month formed the two-member sub-committee and asked it to place the recommendations in two months.

Chief Whip Khandakar Delwar Hossain, convenor of the sub-committee, had convened the meeting. It was scheduled to be held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 11:00am yesterday. But waiting for BNP lawmaker Mizanur Rahman Minu, the other member of the committee, for about one and half hours, he postponed the meeting at about 12:30pm, sources said.

Besides, Prime Minister's Parliamentary Affairs Advisor Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, who were tasked with making suggestions for the sub-committee, did not turn up for the meeting.

The sub-committee, however, would sit soon, sources said.
