Alarming!

I find it extremely hard to understand why our nation... which is not waging war on anyone; which is not under invasion from any foreign power... is being subjected to such heinous acts of brutality. In places like Kosovo, Iraq, Palestine, etc., such violent acts, although extremely horrifying, are perhaps somewhat inevitable.

What is worse is the fact that this cowardly attack was on a person who was a rose in the thorny world of politics. Although I may not have an ounce of respect for most of our politicians, I strongly believed that Mr. Kibria was one of the very few gentlemen who dwelt in their midst.

What is the message that the perpetrators are trying to convey to the youth of the nation? Are they trying to indicate that: if you try to excel in whatever you do and try to serve your country in the best possible manner, the only reward that you can ever expect is to have a grenade lobbed at you?

After each terrible incident that occurs back home, I keep telling myself that there possibly cannot be anything worse than this... And I am thoroughly alarmed to see that I am being proved wrong on an increasingly regular basis! Even more disconcerting is the fact that those responsible are still at large...
