Detectives to detect rowdy pro-hartal activists

Detectives supported by police have been deployed to detect rowdy pro-hartal activists from police videos as well as the footage of the satellite television channels, home ministry sources said yesterday.

"Detectives are in the field to identify those who have been trying to create an anarchic situation in the name of hartal," a senior official of the ministry said. The footage of satellite TV channels and the police videos would be the prime source for such identification, he added.

The official said several pro-hartal activists have already been identified and some of them arrested for their direct involvement in setting fire to buses and hurling bombs.

The police patrol has also been geared up in some areas of Mirpur, Mohammadpur and old Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the home ministry has decided to try the people with specific charges of damaging vehicles and hurling bombs under the Speedy Trial Act.

The law enforcing agencies have also been asked to remain on high alert to face any untoward incidents, sources said.
