Australia drub Slovak Rep

Mark Philippoussis' efforts to halt his form slump suffered a setback here Monday but Australia still scraped a 2-1 win over the Slovak Republic in the Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis tournament. Philippoussis, whose ranking has fallen 100 places to 109 in the last 12 months, was overpowered 7-5, 6-2 by the Slovak Republic's Dominik Hrbaty in the opening Group B tie at Burswood Dome. Alicia Molik, whose ranking has been heading in the opposite direction to Philippoussis' after winning three tournaments last year, had given Australia team a perfect start when she scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Daniela Hantuchova.
