Trade through Bhomra port begins

Export-import activities at Bhomra land port resumed on Sunday as the C&F agents called off their strike but the activities at Benapole land port remained stalled until yesterday.

The clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents association of Bhomra in Bangladesh and Shojadanga in India called off their joint indefinite strike started on Thursday, reports our Satkhira correspondent.

Sources said the C&F agents made the decision after the authorities assured them that their demands would be met.

Our Jessore correspondent adds: Stalemate at Benapole land port continued for the third day yesterday. Hundreds of trucks with goods including perishable ones have been stranded at Benapole and Petrapole in India.

Five trade union organisations enforced an indefinite strike at Benapole land port to protest a five-fold hike in godown tariff.
