Hasan new navy chief


Commodore Mohammad Hasan Ali Khan has been appointed as the chief of naval staff with effect from January 10, an ISPR release said yesterday quoting a notification issued by the defence ministry.

His promotion to the rank of rear admiral will also be effective from January 10.

Hasan succeeds Rear Admiral Shah Iqbal Mujtaba, who will go on retirement the same day on completion of his tenure, the ISPR release added.

Hasan was born in a respectable Muslim family at Hat-Lakshmipur in Gaibandha on February 11, 1950. He joined the navy as an officer cadet on May 9, 1969 and was commissioned to the executive branch of Bangladesh Navy in 1972.

A graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Hasan also attended National Defence College at Mirpur and obtained the NDC degree. He also attended the Pacific Centre for Security Studies Executives course in the US besides doing a number of professional courses at home and abroad.

He commanded a number of ships and establishments of the navy and held senior positions including assistant chief of the naval staff and naval secretary at the naval headquarters.

Hasan is married and has two daughters.
