11-day women entrepreneurs' workshop begins in Sylhet

An eleven-day training workshop for women entrepreneurs began at Tikorpara village of Beanibazar in Sylhet yesterday. Women Entrepreneurs Association (WEA), Bangladesh organized the workshop styled 'Women's Empowerment & Advancement by Learning and Training of Herself (WEALTH)'. Fair & Lovely Foundation of Unilever Bangladesh is sponsoring the programme while Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS), an NGO, is extending necessary support to implement it. Thirty women are taking part in the training. It is the ninth workshop while eight were arranged in other districts, said Sajal K Nath, assistant director of the Business Development Centre of TMSS, who is also the coordinator of the workshop. The main purpose of the training is to empower rural women to start small businesses. Many entrepreneurs who have already launched such businesses are also participating at the workshop, Nath said. The eleven-day training will be on two phase -- business management and Nursery and Floriculture, Nath said. After the training, the women will be introduced to different financial organizations for availing small credits to start businesses. The loan amount will be a maximum of Tk 2 lakh, organizers said. WEA and TMSS will monitor the performance of the loanees.
