More controversial recruitment at RU on the cards
RU Correspondent
The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have initiated the process of yet another controversial recruitment, this time of three teachers to Social Work department and six teachers to Islamic History and Culture department, despite strong objection from the planning committee members. Appointment of the three teachers to Social Work department now awaits approval of the vice chancellor as the department chairman has already recommended their appointment following a department planning committee meeting. But three of the six-member planning committee in its October 13 meeting said in a note of dissent that the department did not need any teachers, sources said. "There is no need for recruiting teachers as the department has already 21 teachers and they are taking four classes a week instead of six as per rule," said Prof Jalal Uddin. The recruitment was underway only for political reasons, a teacher commented. However, department Chairman Prof Ashrafuzzman termed the recruitment logical, saying that the three posts remained vacant for long. Islamic History and Culture department authorities asked for advertisement seeking applications for six teachers, in violation of planning committee decision against any recruitment. Five of the seven-member planning committee on November 30 registered their opinion against any recruitment to the department as there are already 21 teachers. The department chairman Prof KBM Shahjahan said the planning committee approved the recruitment in a secret meeting.
