Why first name only?

The Daily Star printed the Point-Counterpoint article of Dr. Liaquat Ali Khan on November 30 and referred to the United States National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice repeatedly as Condi, Attorney General designate Alberto Gonzales as Alberto, Assistant Attorney General Viet Dinh as Viet, and Secretary of State Colin Powell as Colin. Bangladeshi writers and reporters use the American and British first names very freely, too freely I believe and easily call President Bush George and Prime Minister Blair Tony.

I believe you should correct the free use of first names of these people, just as Dr. Khan would not want us referring to him as Liaquat. Neither Dr. Khan nor we should be referring to the Americans as Condi, Alberto, Viet etc.
