Role of judiciary
Shamsher Chowdhury Dhaka
My attention was drawn to the lead news published in your daily of 30 November under the caption "Nine bureaucrats face contempt proceedings". This has been the most thought-provoking news for me in over a year or even more. I remember quite sometime back when the law minister asked about the delay in complying with the directives of the Supreme Court said something to the effect that the courts did not understand (!) the complex workings of this business of separating the Judiciary from the Executive and that he was not too sure as to how it would benefit the "people" at large. I was dismayed by that statement. Why the nine bureaucrats only, why not some of their superiors under whose directives they were working also called to explain their conducts?
