Letters
EM, On e-mail
I have been writing letters since childhood. When I went to graduate school at the university, I was taking a course on "Epistles"; letters written by many writers like Emily Dickenson, DH Lawrence, and other famous writers and people. I received my first letters when I was 10 years old, from my friends. I received a letter from the great writer Richard Bach in 1977. Letters are messages, perhaps carried by a pigeon. There are stories of old letters (Ghost Letters), there was a movie on letters from a ghost that appeared in a drawer (Ghost Writings). There are stories of historical letters, Letters From a Father to His Daughter (Indira Gandhi). A letter is a message and it is very different from everyday speech. There is something special about a letter. Letters are very different and they are more interesting than phone calls. Letters express more feelings. Alexander Stoddard wrote The Gift of a Letter. The writer says "Read letters, write them, collect important lines, or discard some of them". There are so many letters, some letters are given with trust, some letters are in books, letters to Santa Claus, letters like a ghost or epitaph on a grave, we can write a letter to an alien from another planet. So many letters!
