‘Mistakenly' reallocated land'
Z Islam Monipuripara, Dhaka
The news on the above subject (DS: 21/11/04) rightly prompted an editorial (22/11/04). One hundred and sixty acres of Turag Flood Basin land -- allocated to Biswa Ijtema for their annual congregation during dry season-- was ecologically an appropriate step which is being foiled by land grabbers' greed. It is definitely a case of collusion among government officials and private parties in giving away public land. Whoever has done this colossal 'mistake' must be taken to task, or else this type of 'mistake' will continue.Very often we witness such government approval and allocation to unauthorised use and nobody is held accountable for it. Even if these are real mistakes, the officials responsible must be penalised for their inefficiency.
