FAO support to agri dev will continue
Diouf tells MK Anwar

Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) will continue to encourage all efforts to agriculture development in Bangladesh as it has a dominant role in the economy and employment of the country.

This was stated by the visiting Director General of FAO Jacques Diouf during a meeting with Agriculture Minister MK Anwar at the ministry yesterday.

Diouf said they are ready to continue support to the efforts leading to agriculture development of Bangladesh.

FAO has so far provided technical assistance totalling 4.8 million US dollar to the crop sub-sector in addition to significant support under its regional assistance support.

The agriculture minister thanked the FAO for its generous cooperation to explore the opportunities and challenges to develop the agriculture sector of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh sought FAO's support to set up a bio-technological research centre.

Diouf said FAO would enhance its technical level involvement in all the issues. A meeting of the consultative group of donors on the action plan would be helpful to address the issues thoroughly.
