Maiden win for Sonali Bank

Sonali Bank tasted their first victory in the Green Delta Premier Hockey League after two draws when they blanked Wari Club 4-0 at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium yesterday.

The bankers, who snatched points from Club Cup runners-up Mariner Youngs but were unlucky to drop points against Sadharan Bima, scored all four goals in the first half.

Indian recruit Anil Ekka scored twice, in the sixth and tenth minute while Hosne Mobarak and Imran added the rest by the half-hour mark.

In the day's other match, Usha Krira Chakra fought hard to maintain hundred per cent record when they beat Sadharan Bima 3-2.

Two goals by national striker Moududur Rahman Shuva and one goal fromYamin Hossain gave Usha a 3-0 lead at the break. But Bima's Mamun and Jamil Ahmed scored inside four minutes of the second half to threaten an upset.

Usha, however, held on to the slim lead to push their collection to six points from two games.

The league will see its first big match today when Club Cup champions Abahani renew their rivalry with Mariner Youngs Club at 3 pm.

Abahani, who won the Club title coming back from three goals down in a dramatic 4-3 win, will miss Prakash Calke who notched a hattrick in that match. The Indian forward arrived in Dhaka late last night but there was not enough time for him to complete registration formalities.

Abahani, who have won both their previous matches, have only one foreign player in their side, Christopher Edward. Mariner, who drew their league opener, have Pakistani pair Yamin Bhatti and Qasim Imran.
