9 die in road mishaps

Nine people were killed and 50 others injured in road accidents in Natore and Dhaka yesterday and the previous night.Our Natore correspondent reported that six people including three women were killed and 50 others injured in a gory road mishap on Natore-Rajshahi highway at 8:30 last night. Police said a Natore-bound passenger coach collided head on with a truck near Ekdala village under Sadar upazila killing three passengers right away and injuring 53 others. Of the wounded, three later succumbed to their injuries at Natore Sadar Hospital and the rest are undergoing treatment there. In the capital, three unidentified people including a woman died in separate road accidents early hours yesterday and the preceding night in Mirpur, Mohakhali and Khilkhet. A man aged about 32 was crossing the road in front of the Fire Brigade office at Mirpur-10 at 2:30am yesterday when a truck ran him over. The man in a green lungi and a red shirt died on the spot. In Mohakhali, a speeding lorry hit a man in Khaki trousers of about 56 years when he was walking by the road at Amtoli at 12:45am yesterday. He died when Gulshan police were rushing him to Combined Military Hospital. On Wednesday at 10:15pm, a woman of about 25 in salwar and kamiz crossing the road near Khilkhet petrol pump was crushed by a bus and died on the spot.
