BBC World Service Director meets PM


BBC World Service Director Nigel Chapman called on Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at her office yesterday .

The BBC director presented Khaleda a documentary on the Hymalayan countries.

Khaleda thanked Nigel Chapman for the documentary and the publication.

She mentioned the popularity of BBC radio in Bangladesh and sought the support of BBC in training of the electronic media personnel in the country.

Nigel recalled with gratitude the introduction of broadcasting BBC radio programme through FM band in Dhaka and BBC television programmes through Bangladesh Television during last BNP regime.

He also expressed willingness to expand FM band service in some other areas of the country.

A press release adds, Information Minister M Shamsul Islam inaugurated a new bureau of BBC at Noor Tower at 73 Sonargaon Road in the city on Tuesday.British High Commissioner in Dhaka, Anwar Choudhury was present at the function.
