Exhibition of liberation war documents begins

A 16-day exhibition of liberation war documents collected by late diplomat SA Jalal began at the Liberation War Museum in the city yesterday.Japanese Ambassador Matsushiro Horiguchi inaugurated the exhibition of documents, the largest single collection of documents on the liberation war. SA Jalal, who studied in Japan in the 60's, launched a solidarity campaign in favour of the then Mujibnagar government. He organised various activities in Japan to mobilise support for Bangladesh's liberation war. His collection contains about 3,500 press clippings from both national and international newspapers published during the War of Liberation. Speaking on the occasion, the Japanese ambassador recalled the contribution of Jalal to the independence war. Mofidul Haque, a trustee of the Liberation War Museum, said these documents will help the future generation know about the liberation war struggle. Dr Sarwar Ali, another trustee, said people could know many untold stories of the liberation war from these newspaper clippings. Selima Jalal, wife of SA Jalal, and Raziul Hasan, a former diplomat, also spoke. The exhibition will remain open from 10.00am to 5.00pm daily till December 16 except Sunday.
