Demand for Full Implementation of CHT Accord
PCJSS agitation today in 3 hill districts


The Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghaty Samity (PCJSS) will organise a agitation programmes in the three hill districts today demanding full implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord.

The accord signed on December 2, 1997 between the then Awami League government and the PCJSS ended over two decades of insurgency in the hill for 'regional autonomy' but it is yet to implemented fully, the PCJSS said in a statement on Tuesday.

The press release said agitation programmes will be held in Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban district headquarters and in all 25 upazilas.

Alongside, the PCJSS will hold a roundtable discussion on the issue at Hotel Riggs Inn in Gulshan in the capital city.

PCJSS chief Santu Larma will attend the roundtable, to be participated by civil society members.

The PCJSS press release said the vital claws of the peace accord yet to be implemented are appointment of indigenous persons as Minister for CHT Affairs and Chairman of the CHT Development Board, withdrawal of Army, APBN and Ansars from the CHT, full-fledged functioning of the CHT Land Commission and the Taskforce on Rehabilitation of Refugees, preparation of a fresh voter list in the region and holding election of CHT Regional Council and Hill District Councils.
