Torture of wife by DU teacher condemned


Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) yesterday condemned the incident of torture of a woman for dowry by her husband, says a press release.

Mahila Parishad in a statement said Prof Kazi Salamat Ullah, a teacher of Dhaka University, tortured his wife Ainun Nahar as she refused pay dowry of Tk 20 lakh.

Ainun Nahar filed a case with Ramna Police Station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in this regard on November 6.

Prof Salamat Ullah have been demanding dowry of Tk 20 lakh for the last two years from his wife Ainun Nahar and used to torture her physically for her refusal, BMP statement said.

On the day of incident, he beat his wife with stick and tried to strangle her, the statement added.
